First Year Connect Newsletter Special Edition: First Year Forum Recap and Registration

Hey Spartans!

Welcome to a very special edition of the Your First Year Connect Newsletter about course registration and First Year Forum Recap! This edition includes useful information about spring course registration and content that was discussed during the virtual First Year Forum program on October 4.

Advising and Registration Timeline

  • October 1 – Spring 2022 Course Schedule went live and is available to view in UNCGenie and Schedule Hero
  • October 25 – Course registration begins for current undergraduate students
  • November 7 & 8 – Registration windows open for students with 0-29 hours earned
  • November 16 – Schedule Adjustment Period begins for current students (and continues through the first week of classes in Spring 2022)

How To Find Out When You Register

Registration windows are assigned based on your earned semester hours. To find out when you can begin to register, follow these steps in UNCGenie:

  • Enter Secure Area
  • Click on the “Student” tab
  • Click “Registration”
  • Select “Check Your Registration Status”
  • Choose “Spring 2023” as the term
  • Hit the Submit button

Schedule Hero and DegreeWorks

Two useful tools to keep in mind when preparing for registration include Degree Works and Schedule Hero. Schedule Hero makes registration quick and easy and allows you to search for courses, block out time conflicts, and automatically generate dozens of possible schedules based on your criteria. You can review your schedules with your advisor and discuss your progress toward graduation through DegreeWorks, then get started planning your classes. Access Schedule Hero from this link or through iSpartan, UNCGenie, or the UNCG mobile app.

Next Steps

  • Schedule a meeting with your advisor
  • Appointments should be scheduled at least a few days before your registration window opens to ensure you get the courses you want.
  • You must meet with your advisor to receive the required advising code to register. With no code, you will be unable to register for your courses.
  • Attend your advising appointment
  • Be sure to arrive early and prepared.
  • Bring a mock schedule.
  • Look up your registration window on UNCGenie
  • Use Schedule Hero to finalize your course schedule preferences
  • The night before your registration window opens
  • Double-check your preferred schedule course availability
  • Log in to Schedule Hero a few minutes before 12 midnight
  • Use your Spring 2023 advising code to register at 12:01 a.m.
  • Register!

If you were unable to participate in the live program – no worries! Recordings from all program sessions are now available. We highly encourage all first-year students to watch or re-watch these very helpful videos in preparation for spring course registration.
