About Alpha Lambda Delta


Alpha Lambda Delta is a prestigious national honor society of high achieving first-year students. The mission of ALD is to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher education, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.

  • Eligibility and Application Process
    • You must be a First-Year in college
    • Achieve a 3.5 or higher GPA during your first semester at UNCG
    • Invitations will be sent out in February, 2024
    • All invitees must accept their invitations by the end of March, 2024
    • Induction will be on April 7, 2024

Service Opportunities

  • Winter Clothing Drive
    • Join ALD in collecting gently used/new clothing items for local shelters in the Greensboro area. This year’s drive will take place during the spring semester of the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Backpack Beginnings
    • Backpack Beginnings is an organization whose mission is to deliver child-centric services to feed, comfort and clothe children in need (backpackbeginnings.org). ALD frequently partners with Backpack Beginnings in this effort by assisting with the sorting of incoming donations and other tasks.   • Greensboro Urban Ministries 
    • Greensboro Urban Ministries is a local organization whose mission is to provide the community with food, shelter, and solutions (Greensborourbanministries.org). ALD partners with them to help stock and organize their food pantry along with other tasks. Please visit the Canvas page for more information about volunteer opportunities.
  • Spartan Day of Service
    • Spartan Day of Service is an annual service project that is housed in the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement (OLCE) here on campus.   • MLK Day of Service
    • MLK Day of Service is an annual service project that is housed in the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement (OLCE) here on campus. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is an annual university-wide event which takes place every January to give UNCG students an opportunity to be introduced to different parts of our community while honoring Dr. King’s legacy through service (olce.uncg.edu).   • Blood Drive 
    • The Elliott University Center (EUC) hosts multiple blood drives throughout the semester. Students can volunteer to give blood or assist with greeting, processing, or ensure that donors have something to eat or drink after donating. Events

  • Chapter Meetings
    • ALD’s executive board hosts two chapter meetings a month. These meetings happen on a bi-weekly basis and are intended to provide members with updates, reminders, and an opportunity to engage in personal development.   • Professional Development Opportunities
    • Professional development opportunities happen during the second chapter meeting of the month. These sessions are usually led by campus partners and give members a chance to engage with and make connections with various offices across campus.   • Study Nights
    • ALD study nights allow members to join others in a quiet space to study together, and earn points while doing so. To see this semester’s study nights times and days, please visit the Canvas page. 
  • Study-a-thon
    • Study-A-Thon occurs on Reading Day (the Thursday before final examinations). This is a place for ALD members to come together to study and also take some study breaks together. Food and refreshments are provided. For more information, please visit the Canvas page.
