Get Ahead of the Game: Syllabus Reviews |
Wednesday, January 10 & Thursday, January 11
1 – 4 p.m. in the AAC (lower level of Jackson Library, 023)

Kickstart your semester with the academic success coaches to review your syllabi, identify questions to ask your instructors, and organize important dates into your planner or calendar.
The Academic Achievement Center is dedicated to helping you create your own opportunities for learning. For more information, head over to the AAC’s website!

The YFY Success Series is back and better than ever for the Spring 2024 semester! The selection of events and workshops this semester will include topics such as:

- Mastering professional development software, like Handshake and LinkedIn
- Improving your note taking skills and study strategies
- Making new friends at Palentine’s Day
- Midterm grades and online etiquette
- And more!

Don’t forget: if you attend 5 or more programs throughout the academic year, you will be eligible to receive a First Year Success Series Certificate. Free giveaways are always available for 5-10 lucky students who attend each event!

FYE 101: Succeed at the G |
Do you still need to complete your MAC Foundations competency course this spring? If so, enrolling in FYE 101: Succeed at the G can help you fulfill this requirement while also fostering academic success, engaging in personal development, and connecting with the UNCG community.

Want to enroll in FYE 101? Follow any of the steps below to secure your spot!

- Email YFY your student ID number and the subject line “Enroll in FYE 101”
- Text your student ID number and “enroll in FYE 101” to 1-336-541-6939

Per the university’s academic calendar, Friday, January 12 is the last day that you are allowed to make changes to your classes for the semester, also known as the add/drop deadline.
Reach out to an academic advisor if you are considering adding or dropping any classes. If you aren’t sure who your advisor is, you can contact your college or school’s advising center. Select your college or school’s name on this website to see their contact information. You can add/drop classes in UNCGenie under the student “registration” menu.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day & Day of Service |
Monday, January 15 & Saturday, January 13 from 1 – 5 p.m.

UNCG will not hold classes on Monday, January 16 in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Offices will also be closed.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is an annual university-wide event which takes place every January to give UNCG students an opportunity to be introduced to different parts of our community while honoring Dr. King’s legacy through service. The Office of Leadership & Civic Engagement (OLCE) will host UNCG’s annual university-wide day of service on Saturday, January 13. Consider volunteering to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service!

If you received a 3.5 GPA or higher last semester – congratulations and be on the lookout for an email from one of our two academic honor societies for new students at UNCG.

First-year students will be invited to join Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) and transfer students will be invited to join Tau Sigma. These are great opportunities for involvement, leadership, and professional development.

| File your 2024-2025 FAFSA |
The priority period to file your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) has begun for the 2024-2025 academic year. You must file a FAFSA every year for financial aid consideration, and the sooner the better, so keep an eye on your email for updates from Financial Aid.

Read through these Tips for Filing the FAFSA or make a virtual appointment with a Financial Aid counselor using Starfish if you have questions about FAFSA or financial aid.

Academic Advising Drop-In Hours |
The Students First Office offers drop-in advising hours for all students to answer questions about your schedule and help you make any necessary changes. Hours will be offered Monday-Thursday from via Zoom or in-person in Forney 101 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fridays are virtual only and occur from 9 a.m. – 12 noon. For more information please visit the SFO website.
