Welcome to UNCG
Now that your student is considering attending UNC Greensboro, we want to welcome you to the Spartan family! The choice of a college or university marks a major milestone in your student’s life, and we are excited to have your student join the UNCG community.
A UNCG education prepares students for life. Through challenging academics and experienced-based learning opportunities, including research, service, study abroad, and internships, Spartans learn to think critically, solve problems, inform themselves as global citizens, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. UNCG’s culture of care supports, guides, and encourages students with a wealth of campus resources dedicated to academics, health and wellness, professional development, and more.
We understand and respect that families spend years preparing a child for college, and we value you as a partner in your child’s education. We all share the common goal of student success. Because transitioning to college is a big step, students sometimes face challenges that overwhelm or confuse them as they grow, reflect, and gain independence. Invested family members often make these challenges easier to overcome, and we pledge to work with you so that your student will learn to independently access any needed resources.
If you and your student have questions as August approaches, please contact us. And watch for details about SOAR (Spartan Orientation, Advising, and Registration) – this two-day event will provide much of the information your family needs. You also may want to follow the UNCG Families of Future Spartans page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/futurespartanfamilies). This is a great source for campus news and events, and tips and reminders for parents of college students.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Welcome from Families of Future Spartans
Thank you for your interest in UNCG and, more importantly, your commitment to supporting your student on his/her college-going journey. My name is Austin McKim and my job at UNCG is to be a support to you as you navigate your student’s transition to college.
I had the pleasure of meeting many parents and families like you during UNCG’s First Look events last month. In speaking to you, I heard questions about everything from financial aid to campus safety. I was excited to hear how engaged families are in the college search process, and I was thrilled to see so many students discovering for the first time what it means to be a UNCG Spartan.
As you and your student continue exploring your college options, I hope UNCG remains on your short list. This is an exhilarating, important (and sometimes overwhelming) time, and I want to make sure you have all of the resources and support you need for this vital transition. Please consider me as a personal resource for you throughout the months ahead. I’m happy to answer your questions about UNCG and give you advice on the best ways you can be involved in your child’s admission and enrollment process.
Please reach out to us via email at FFS@uncg.edu or text at 1-336-937-0732 (1+ area code is required). You can also explore more about the student transition online (http://newstudents.uncg.edu) or on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/familiesfuturespartans/).
I look forward to working with you, and I hope to see you and your student on campus soon.
